HOME GARDENING IN TREND

Home Gardening is the need of the hour considering the situation in the world where food products and vegetables are being sold at hiked prices and are grown using extensive amounts of pesticides and insecticides. Home Gardening provides a platform to budding gardeners and even regular people to develop and explore their green hand. It is a great way to incorporate life into areas that need a revamp and a new lease of life! Not just this, it will also add color to your homes and elevate your mood like none other.

ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Indian attitude towards the environment has visibly degraded in the recent decade. It is needless to say that the recent climate change phenomenon that can be seen across the world is a result of worsened environmental quality. The incessant felling of trees is the root cause of most climatic irregularities since it disrupts the ecological cycle. As citizens, it is high time we understand our environment social responsibility.

SPRING- THE SEASON OF COLOURS

SPRING- THE SEASON OF COLOURS Spring is here, the most beautiful season of the year which marks the transition period between the cold winters entering into the hot summers. This is when flowers bloom and trees begin growing and reproducing. The Earth seems to be coming to life again! Temperatures are on a rise, days become longer and farmers prepare to plant a fresh batch of seeds (usually shrubs and flowers). It is the apt time to revitalize your soil, clean out the garden and trim old plants. You remove the layer of mulch and debris from the soil so that the top soil can be exposed to natural warmth. Also, this is the best time to mow your lawns and give it a clean and refreshing look. Common plants that are planted early in the spring are vinca, zinnia, portulaca, gomphrena, marigold etc.

Keeping a home garden has multiple benefits. Aside from having farm-fresh organic produce, the greenery around your backyard or garden will be highly effective in reducing pollution levels in your vicinity providing a healthier environment. Also, the greens and brightness are just enough to elevate a dull or boring mood! Writer’s block, hit the open air and garden; feeling low, go around for a walk amidst greenery; it is a full-time solution to all your problems and not just an aesthetically pleasing corner of the house.

In today’s times, there is an undeniable stress on having kitchen gardens at one’s house. The saying: “Look I got it straight out of my garden, totally organic and home grown!”, provides one much fun and pride. A kitchen garden would ask for time to invest and space to create! Before setting up a kitchen garden, one must have a proper layout for the same; it will help you pan out different colors across the area the way you would like for it to ultimately look.

Kitchen garden can involve planting of vegetable, fruits and herbs. Fruit gardens require ample space, and a whole lot of patience for the fruit is ready for use only after 2-3 years. You can plan out fruits to be planted according to the season in which they ripen and are ready to harvest.

While fruit gardens ask for space, a vegetable garden asks for the best garden soil and a sunny area of the house to bloom. The simplest approach to a vegetable garden is to prepare beds wide enough so that you have a good reach from each side and have sufficient area of pathway between the beds. You can also have herb beds out in the garden, but they ask for a sunny to semi-shaded area. Herbs require for an airy area where there is a continuous circulation of air (this does not mean wind) with sufficient moisture. The area shouldn’t be extremely dry with just air circulating! Herbs account for the most popular grow at home plants.

Lastly, one thing that is common to all these types of gardens is the requirement for compost. The soil organisms possess the ability to convert the compost into highly valuable ‘humus’ which determines the quantity and quality of your produce.

These were a few quick notes before you step forward and plan your home garden. A greener environment at home will benefit not just you but also your close neighborhood, so, let’s get started and put our best foot forward as environmentally responsible citizens of the country.

Just like each firm has some corporate social responsibility, similarly, it has one to the environment also. People mistake corporate social responsibility to be firms doing ‘charity’ for the society, whereas, it also is supposed to encircle the environmental aspect which focuses on limiting the firm’s activities to the extent that it doesn’t severely harm the environment because little harm is unavoidable.

The environmental and corporate social responsibility is an inter- mingled web of actions and expectations. As a firm, we can aim at a comprehensive impact assessment study to ensure a proper benchmark and transparency. One must also ensure compliance with international standards of environment set by bodies of international repute and set up environmental controls in the in-situ region. Just like one invests in business strategizing, they must do the same for environmental and social management strategy. The company must refrain from contaminating forms of natural resources, mainly water bodies. The main reasons of environmental hazard include elimination of factory wastes, activities that aim at improving efficiency of production resources and many more.

Although there exist certain standards and controls to ensure environmental quality, firms are failing to abide by them since they involve heavy cost licenses and large amounts of investment in technology upgrade.

Our responsibility as firms towards the environment today is a deal with no possibility of negotiations. We should be fully aware and sensitive to the need of maintaining ecological balance between human activities and nature’s procreation. Hence, we must make all possible efforts to ensure a better quality of environment for us and well as our neighborhoods. To end it, “Because being useful to ourselves, to others and to the world is the very meaning of our progress”.
